Spreading the Joy of Reading

At The Reading Foundation, we believe in supporting our communities our students call home. What better way to do that this past holiday season than spreading the joy of reading? To do this, we launched a holiday book drive in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto with the goal of collect books for dedicated organizations in each city that help children in need.

Calgary

The Reading Foundation’s Calgary clinic chose to partner with Calgary Reads and encouraged families to donate new and gently used books suitable for children aged 0 to 8. The Reading Foundation collected more than 250 books for the Calgary Reads Book Bank, featuring a wonderful selection of titles that will provide children in our community with access to quality, age-appropriate reading material year-round!

Vancouver

The Vancouver clinic hosted a successful book drive to support Lord Beaconsfield Elementary School’s library, which will benefit students from kindergarten to Grade 7 (ages 5 to 13). Lord Beaconsfield is located in Renfrew Heights and shares The Reading Foundation’s commitment to equipping students with strong literacy skills. The school enrolls approximately 185 students, and The Reading Foundation’s Vancouver team had the opportunity to meet the teachers and students who will enjoy the donated books throughout the school year.

Toronto

In Toronto, The Reading Foundation collected books for Camp Oochigeas (Camp Ooch), a volunteer-based organization providing unique opportunities for growth to children affected by cancer through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. The books will be enjoyed by children up to age 8 and were distributed by Camp Ooch volunteers to children who are currently in hospital.

The Reading Foundation would like to thank the students and their families who helped make the holiday book drive a success, and we look forward to more community initiatives in 2018!
