Discover ABCs©
In Discover ABCs©, young learners start their journey into reading with an introduction to letter names and sounds.
- Age Group: 4–5-year-olds
- Format: Small group classes, week-long camps run for two hours per day
- Locations: Calgary (Spring Break & Summer), Toronto (Summer)
- Key Features:
- Use of multisensory activities, including crafts, songs, games and movement to help teach phonemic awareness
- Development of correct pencil grip and printing skills
- Enhancement of listening skills
- Develops children’s expressive language skills and vocabulary knowledge
- Use of mental imagery to support comprehension, using research-based strategies for creating mental imagery
Discover Reading© Beginner Level
An immersion program for any young child who is ready to begin building the proper foundation for reading. It is also an appropriate choice for children who may be struggling with the beginning reading process.
Discover Reading© Beginner Level develops reading and spelling as well as important printing skills in a fun and effective way.
- Format: One-to-one instruction
- Key Features:
- Introduces sounds and their corresponding letters through reading a specially written storybook
- Develops phonemic awareness and decoding skills
- Introduces correct pencil grip and letter formation with printing activities
- Exposes students to simple, complex, and multi-syllable word structures
- Develops fluency through reading
Discover 123s©
Discover 123s© introduces preschool and kindergarten children to basic math concepts in a fun, active and encouraging environment
- Age Group: 4–5-year-olds
- Format: Small group classes – children can join at any time with ongoing registration available from September through June
- Key Features:
- Discovery of math concepts including number recognition, counting, basic computations and measurement
- Use of multisensory activities, including crafts, songs, games and movement
- Focuses on teaching correct pencil grip and printing of numbers
- Develops listening skills such as those needed to follow directions
Discover Printing©
Learning to print alphabet letters both accurately and quickly is an important building block skill for both reading and spelling for students of all ages.
The Discover Printing program incorporates a unique, research-based approach of direct instruction to help students build this important skill. The Reading Foundation has created a cost-effective virtual platform that teaches Discover Printing on an individual basis with the use of a touch screen device and stylus. Audio dialogue and visual cues are provided for each letter. Please note that the device and stylus are not provided, and smart phones will not work for this program.
Parents can choose to enrol their student by discussing specifics of the program at each of our clinics. Once enrolled, a student logs into the platform and completes the exercises at home. Progress is monitored by their Team Leader and feedback to parents occurs regularly.
