Whether you’re looking to give your child a jump start into the reading process, or some extra help with reading, spelling, printing or math, we’ve got a program for you. It is so important to instill a love of learning at an early age, and our exciting and fun programs aim to do just that.
Programs Offered for Beginner Learners
Discover ABCs©
Small Group Classes for 4-5-Year-Olds*
Currently Offered In Calgary (Spring Break & Summer), and Toronto (Summer)
In Discover ABCs©, our young learners start their journey into reading with an introduction to letter names and sounds.
* Offered over Spring Break & Summer in Calgary and Summer in Toronto.
* Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis, as some five-year-old children would benefit most from our Discover Reading© Beginner Level program.
Key Features:
- Fun, motivating and engaging environment
- Use of multisensory activities, including crafts, songs, games and movement to help teach phonemic awareness
- Focuses on teaching correct pencil grip and printing, laying the foundation for spelling and other fine-motor activities
- Develops listening skills such as those needed to follow directions
- Works on developing children’s expressive language skills and vocabulary knowledge
- Teaches young learners how to picture information in their minds, an essential skill for reading and listening comprehension, using research-based strategies for creating mental imagery
- Week-long camps run for two hours per day
Discover Reading© Beginner Level
One-to-One
An immersion program for any young child who is ready to begin building the proper foundation for reading. It is also an appropriate choice for children who may be struggling with the beginning reading process.
Discover Reading© Beginner Level develops reading and spelling as well as important printing skills.
Key Features:
- Introduces sounds and their corresponding letters by way of reading a specially written storybook
- Teaches phonemic processing
- Builds connections between sounds and letters in a fun and effective way
- Introduces correct pencil grip and letter formation with printing activities
- Exposes students to simple, complex, and multi-syllable words
- Develops fluency through reading and timed challenges
Discover 123s©
Year-Round Small Group Classes for 4-5-Year-Olds *NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED
Vancouver classes available upon request
Discover 123s© introduces preschool and kindergarten children to basic math concepts in a fun, active and encouraging environment
Key Features:
- Discovery of math concepts including number recognition, counting, basic computations and measurement
- Use of multisensory activities, including crafts, songs, games and movement
- Focuses on teaching correct pencil grip and printing of numbers
- Develops listening skills such as those needed to follow directions
- Children can join at any time with ongoing registration available from September through June
- Two-hour blocks are available on select weekdays
Discover Printing©
One-to-One
For children who require instruction and practice to improve or refine their printing skills.
Key Features:
- Improves neatness and legibility
- Develops correct pencil grip
- Teaches correct formation for both upper- and lower-case letters
- Builds confidence and reduces frustration with the printing process
- Requires a total of 30 hours of instruction
