The Reading Foundation teaches struggling readers how to read. Using evidence-based programs rooted in the science of reading, we work with learners of all ages to improve their literacy and their confidence. Our program, Discover Reading, has been cited as a program with the Highest Outcomes in Dr. David Kilpatrick’s book Essentials of Assessing, Preventing and Overcoming Reading Difficulties. (2015)
If your child struggles with comprehension, math or writing, we also have effective programs to focus on those needs.
Our programs are individually tailored for each student to focus on their needs. This allows us to work with students that need remedial attention as well as students that would benefit from enrichment work.
Programs and Services
- Discover Reading©: our research-based, results-proven program is designed to systematically teach reading and spelling. There are three different levels of the program to account for students of all ages and abilities:
- Beginner: for kindergarten students
- Basic: for students in 1st through 6th grade
- Advanced: for older students (7th grade through to adult)
- Discover Meaning©: designed to strengthen reading comprehension with a systematic and engaging approach based on the theory of dual-coding (simultaneously processing information verbally and nonverbally). Creating mental images for information is fundamental to understanding, retaining and enjoying what you read. It also relates to expressing information in written and oral form.
- Discover Language©: develops a student’s oral language skills, including using precise language when defining words, exposure to morphology, syntax and grammar. It also develops an understanding of synonyms, antonym, multiple meanings of words and basic figurative language.
- Discover Math©: teaches an understanding of math operations through introductions to math concepts with manipulatives, number lines and visualization.
- Discover Writing©: incorporates the dual-coding process to assist the student with creating interesting and well written sentences, paragraphs and essays/stories.
